Two days later they were gone. GONE. Other plants were fine, but all the petunias had disappeared. We discovered they had been eaten to ground level by snails. I was mad. I spoke to the lovely man at Fleurs Nursery who advised that sawdust sprinkled around the base of the petunias may help and gave me a punnet to try. Sure enough it worked. I went back and bought another 18 red and white petunias and replanted them. By golly those snails better not return. Just as the man advised I circled the base of the petunias with sawdust. 10.30pm on the first night Mike, err, the great snail hunter, with his trusty sidekick Lucky, decided to go out on “snail patrol” with his torch. Only a few snails were around which he promptly disposed of to the nature-strip. And the sawdust seems to be working. Either that or it’s gotten out into the snail community to be aware of the crazy man in the middle of the night with the torch! Actions |

Sat May 5, 2012 1:48am I love a good story! This is particularly fun in how you go from dark to light in the text. The torn pp is a terrific effect as it looks like part of the story. Great lo, TFS! |
