Description

Here's a side-by-side comp, of with and without shadows.

The left is not shadowed. On the right, it is, with the following settings:
Linear Burn, color code 2c1901
60% opacity
90 degree angle, with global light UNchecked
Distance - 0
Spread - 0
Size - 10 px

Thanks so much for taking this time to post this, Gen. It helps *so* much! Do you use different angle for the other elements on your pages? Is there a way to "pre-set" and keeping those settings or do multiple elements at the same time (I feel like it takes me forever when I am adding shadows to everything)?

I am really working on learning the shadows right now. They can make such a difference in the final outcome!

Thanks again.

Kelli, great questions. Short answers:

Yes, I use different angles for a few different things
Yes, you can preset your shadows, at least in PS.
Yes, you can copy the shadow settings from one element to another

There's a lot more info, obviously, and I am hardly a shadow expert, but I'll try and get a blog post together in the next few days.

THanks for this Gen. I've always had a hard time with stitches and shadows - I'll have to give it a shot!

Thanks so much for your answers, Gen! I played around in Photoshop this morning and figured out how to copy and paste layer styles--it saves *so* much time over resetting everything! I'd love to see a blog post on this. I am sure that there are a lot of folks who have shadows down pat, but there are also probably a lot of people like me who still have a lot to learn.

very cool, Gen. Thanks for sharing your settings! I'm never sure how to shadow a stitch. (That sounds weird, doesn't it?)

Thank you! Stitches are the hardest thing for me to shadow - but it makes such a huge difference in the final outcome.
