Wed Dec 14, 2011 Description
In mid-1983 we moved from the lowest-taxed province in Canada to the highest taxed province. We had 3 little ones aged 4, 2 and 2 months when we arrived there and it soon became obvious that we needed more income so that we'd be able to pay the income tax we'd end up owing. So DH took a second job as a security guard for Canadian Tire (a chain hardware and automotive store). One day in early November he came home and said that they'd gotten a shipment of these dolls that kids could "adopt" and that they weren't horribly expensive. Should he buy one for each of the kids? Sure, I said. A couple of weeks later he came home with a red mark on his face - from an elbow. There had been a mini-riot in the store over these dolls... the most in-demand toy of the year. And we had three of them hidden away. We still get a kick out of that!
