My husband wants me to make kindness jars. Basically, an incentive for my boys to be kind.

We're thinking that if they are kind, they get to put something in the jar. If they are not being nice, they lose something. No edibles, because I'm on a diet :) Maybe print out paper things and fold them to make them 3-dimensional? Or get small stones or beads or something from the craft store?

I could do one jar for each boy (there are 2), or do one jar total and color-code and mix each boy's kindness items.

I suggested I put ribbons on Mason jars, and DH said it was too girly for my boys :( . So ribbons are out.

What should I do?

I've been thinking about this. I don't think ribbon is a problem, I think bows are a problem. ;) If you have a ribbon with some masculine colors/patterns, use them to attach labels (think Jen's label's, but with your kindness theme instead of Halloween). You could also use it to attach a metal rimmed tag to the jars with each child's name on them.

What a great idea!

I use chore charts in my house, but they have extra boxes where they earn checks for anything extra they do, like being kind, or patient, or saying, "Good morning" to the crossing guard. (I am constantly amazed at how many grown-ups don't acknowledge people they encounter on a daily basis. I am determined that my children won't be one of those grown-ups one day.)

I can't wait to see what you come up with and how it works.

Mary, Deena has some boy-themed kits which might have stuff that would work as printables for decorating the jars (Scoot and Rocketman). Have you decided what to put in the jars? Do the boys like Lego, for example? That might be fun to get some extra pieces.
