Hi everyone! I like to find ways to apply traditional scrapping techniques in digital whenever I can. This month's technique is similar to using sticker alphas on a page, painting and/or misting over them, and then peeling off the stickers to create a masked title. Here is the page I created:

Here's how:

I used Crystal's Hint of Fall Mists and Agnes' Paint Accent 6 in various colors on my background and merged the layers down to one paint/mist layer. Next, I put a title on a separate layer on top. Make sure the color of your font/alpha is a completely different color than your background. Now that's done, merge the title layer down to the paint layer into one layer.
Using your wand tool, select the title. If it doesn't select all of the title, just go to Select > Similar and you will see marching ants around the whole title. (Note: I use CS3)
Click Delete and Select > Deselect and you will have this:

So won't you give it a try? :) You have til the end of November to complete this challenge. Post your project in the Technique Challenge Gallery for a chance to win a $5 gift certificate and post here, too, so we can leave you some love!

This works exactly the same way in PSE 10. Just tried it to see. Now to create something really special!

Instead of mists, I masked with splats. I hope that is okay. In SBC, you group your mists/splats so that they cover an area and then cut out the text. Pretty easy.

I did mine a little differently, using PSE 8. Somewhere I read you could select text and get marching ants by CTRL&click on the Thumbnail. It selects everything which 1 click! Don't merge the text with the mist, leave on the layer above. Select the text with CTRL& click on the thumbnail to get marching ants. Next, move down on the mist layer, you will still see the ants, but you won't be on the text layer. Hit delet. Turn off the text layer. It takes longer the explain than it does to do it. I even changed the font several times and it only took me a few minutes. I hadn't tried the misting thing before, but it was quick and easy, the hard part was deciding on the font.Image
