I think most of us are ready for this election to be over with next week! I know I am and as a candidate running for re-election and a Township Clerk who is responsible for the process in our community, it is a day I look forward to with mixed emotions. Your journaling challenge this month is to journal about election day - this November 6th, elections in the past or what it means to you to be able to cast your vote. I will be back tomorrow with my layout using Shannon's new Decision 2012 Mini kit http://www.designhousedigital.com/digital-scrapbooking-kit/shannon-mcnab/decision-2012-mini-kit?cPath=18_20 and a few of the other new elements released this week. Right now I need to go and process a few more Absentee Ballots for mailing in the morning!! Here is my layout: Attachment:

LOl Meagan - yeah, think about all the money that's spent on advertising and where it could be put to good use, instead.
Mary, great challenge - I don't vote - I can't, since i'm not a US citizen ... and I don't vote in Australian elections, either, since I'm no longer a resident there. I'm vote-less. I guess I should do a page about that! LOL

Great challenge, Mary! And I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I don't vote either but for other reasons I won't talk about here.

I've voted in every election at every level since I became eligible. Our Canadian electoral system is quite different; we don't have a set duration of term for our federal or provincial governments so our elections can be close together or far apart. Campaigns are much shorter, usually only about 6 weeks. Candidates have very strict fundraising regulations as well as spending limits and their accounts are closely scrutinized. Many people vote by party but it's not nearly as cut-and-dried here. And at the polls we vote only for the local candidate. Our system has a first-past-the-post result, with the party receiving the most seats in the House of Commons forming the government. This isn't ideal due to the size of our country and the distribution of our population. Most of our Prime Ministers have been from Quebec or Ontario because that's where the most people live. Their views and needs are very different from those of the western provinces so there's always a mild sense of disenfranchisement out here. Anyway, I wanted to take this challenge in a slightly different direction so I created my layout about women and the vote. http://www.designhousedigital.com/galle ... erson.html
