I spend a lot of time on my laptop creating pages of this 'n' that. Family memories. Funny stories. The Good, the bad, and the ugly.
I was putting together my 2011 Holiday album (with pages done from Tiffany Tillman's class at ReneePearson.com), and the cover design caught DS's eye - it was something I had designed. For the next half hour, he sat still (HA! An achievement by itself), and proceeded to read each and every page, recounting details about the stories, the photos, where we were, when ... etc.
After DS had retreated to his teenage lair (aka bedroom), I looked at DH and said THAT is why I scrap; THAT is why I spend so much time taking oodles of pictures and recording stories.
So, WHY do YOU scrap?

Love that, thanks for sharing Kat.
I scrap because I love to do it! It makes me happy! I also scrap because my mother made family scrapbooks and to this day I LOVE and adore looking at them. I hope my children will too. (They love looking at their baby scrapbooks (from paper)). I need to be better about printing out the 100s of scrapbook pages I have made for our family. I also love my journaling that goes with the photos so more of the details are remembered not just what the eye can see in the picture. I have a goal to be better at journaling and force myself to tell a story for every page!

Every time my dd comes to visit, she goes right to my studio and opens the albums I make and reads every new page. (During the last visit, over Christmas, she chastised me because I hadn't inserted all the pages yet!) Now my dgd, Sadie, will sit and look at her books too, and quite often it will trigger a memory of something she had forgotten. I love that. Attachment:

A lot of scrapbooking is about a creative outlet for me. My day job is very dry, so the crafty side of me gets strangled if I go too long without scrapping.

I scrapbook to record my life in a personal way. I take a lot of photos and usually use the description section of Flickr to capture notes but I wanted something that didn't require an Internet connection. (Though, I admit, I first started scrapping in HS because the cool youth pastor's wife did it.)

I do for the all the same reasons. I love to re-live the moments and record the stories because I know I may forget. And I agree with Liz it's a creative outlet in contrast to a relatively dry job.
Hmm- came back here because I can't find Liz' layout in the gallery. It's so sweet.

For many reasons like you all listed. It's a great creative outlet. I always learn something new! And because I don't want to forget the small things that made us laugh and enjoy our life. Yes, each year we have Easter and Christmas, etc. Although special every time, it's the moments within that will never happen again that I so proudly have recorded for our family. I love to journal about what else was going on and why it was so special. If someone other than me wants to look at them, then great!

I scrapbook because I want my son to be able to look back at our family and recall things (mostly good, some not so good) that happened. As for LOs of DH and me, I want him to know who we were when we were younger, about our families, grandparents, etc. I scrapbook because I can journal. Most of the time when I journal, I am talking to him. I loved going to my maternal grandmother's house and looking at her photo albums. Many times we had to stop and ask who certain people are in the photos, and she couldn't remember and sometimes my mom couldn't remember either. I don't want that to happen to my son. I also do it as a creative outlet. I've always been crafty. I also use it to de-stress, as my job at times can be rather stressful. AND, I, too, love going back and seeing me and my family.

Like many of you, I scrap so that my daughter can look back on these moments and see what life was about when she was a child. I also like looking back, too, and reading what I wrote (I'm big on journaling!) I LOVED the scrapbook my mom made of me as a baby; I remember sitting there enchanted by it as a young child, trying to imaging myself as a baby, trying to understand that it was ME in those pictures. It was cool to see what life was like before I remembered it, and even after I remembered things.
I want to give my family that gift too! Plus, it's crafty and I enjoy being crafty, and I enjoy the virtual bond with other digiscrappers -- it's a club and an outlet and just lots of fun.

Like many of you, I do it for my family, especially my daughter. I want her to know the stories of the everyday and special events.
I have the worst memory ever and I know I will be the one who will end up having alzheimer sitting in a care home someday. I already told my husband that when that day arrives, to please bring my scrapbooks to me and help me relive/remember those special moments together.
