Kim, I think maybe this widget is too big for typepad. Other people have had trouble with it too. I need to work on a smaller version.
To add the layout widget, you go to Design, then Content, then scroll down through the Categories (the first column) until you find Widgets. Click on that, and in the Modules (second) column, choose Embed your own html and select Add this module button in the third column. Easy peasy.
For the buttons and graphics, that's a little more complicated, but not much. First of all, make sure none of those images are larger than 150x150 pixels. If they are, resize and resave in photoshop. You'll want to save it on your own computer anyway. Then go to your dashboard and in the main (green) toolbar along the top, select Library. Then choose File Manager. Browse to find the graphic you want, select upload, and then click on it to open it in a new browser window once you have done so. Highlight and copy the address of the image and then close that browser window.
Now go back to the green toolbar and choose Library, then choose Typelists from the dropdown menu. Now you want to create a new Typelist (I called mine Sites I Love) and make it a "link" typelist. Click Add an item. In the Title field, you want to put the following code:
<img src="http://put the address here that you copied earlier">
Then, in the URL blank, put a link to the website that you want the image to link to. Of course, you don't have to link to the site, but I prefer to do that, so that my buttons serve a dual purpose.

That's it -- hope it works for you!
