"Black and white photography does more to evoke an emotion and freeze a moment in time than any other medium. Looking back over the decades at such famous photographers as, Steigletz, Weston, Adams, and others has helped elevate black and white photography to a fine art form. The subtle tones of grays, the strong emphasis of the blacks, and the softness of the whites makes one look much closer at the subject and composition due to the lack of natural color. Emotions are always much easier to portray with black and white because of the stark contrasts and the sharp focus on the subject." ~Bob Snell
While most all of us see our world in vivid color, often there are times when a black and white photograph more accurately depicts the reality that surrounds us. Eliminating, or simply removing the color from a photograph can accentuate the form of a subject and can intensify different elements of the image. Especially the emotions of our subjects.
This month your photography challenge is to submit your best/favorite photographs that demonstrate the various advantages of black and white photographs.

I posted a couple of photos in the gallery (thanks, Mary, for setting this up for us!). The first is a pic of some of the boats at the marina - a sure sign that warmer weather is coming; the boats are out being cleaned and getting maintenance: THE BOATS. The other is a duck on the lake - but I love how all the reflections really show up well in B&W: DUCK ON LAKE
