There was a question in the gallery about my layout. Rather than answer it there where it might not be seen, I'm doing it here, if that's okay. DHD Liz asked about the two-tone effect in my photos and if it was from the edge burn action I used. The only place I used the edge burn action was on the paper. I decreased the opacity until it looked right to me and proceeded. Next thing I did was open my photo onto a new file that was the size I wanted the finished triptych to be. I used the rectangular marquee tool to section the photo, knowing that the two side sections had to be 1/4 of the width of the photo and that the centre needed to be a square. I cut-pasted and moved the two side sections which created two separate new layers. When the colouring came into play, I merged those two layers into one. So I had the background layer (transparent), the centre photo layer and the two side photo layer. Starting with the centre photo I again used the rectangular marquee tool to divide the photo into 2/3 and 1/3, with the larger part on top. To get the blue effect, I used Enhance>Color Variation> and then increased the blue and green, decreased the red, darkened the midtones and shadows, lightened the highlights and increased the saturation. (I wrote it all down so I could remember what I'd done.) To alter the two side photos I used the rectangular marquee tool again, drawing my selection box around the unenhanced part of the centre photo (which was on another layer so didn't change when I made the enhancements) and extending out to the outsides of the side photos. Same process to enhance the colours. It took some trial and error to get the blue just right. I gave each section of the photo a bevel then shadowed them before dragging and dropping the whole thing onto my paper.
Nia, the relief-look to the photo is pretty much straight out of the camera. It was a grey day with the snow continuing to fall until nearly suppertime. The light was pretty flat and everything was quite monochromatic but with lots of texture.
Thanks for all the nice comments!
