Well in 11 years that we've been married and all the 1000's of online shopping transactions we've never had a fraudulent use of our credit. It finally happened to us, I knew is was a matter of time.

We are super careful and I check my online info religiously. Anyways my husbands ATM card (which he never uses and doesn't even carry in his wallet) was used for a fraudulent purchase for $120 at a gas station.

Thanks to Visa they caught it in no time flat and refunded the money to our account. We were lucky this time.

Anyone else have any stories to share about fraud? I am curious?

We just had our card replaced last week because the number had been stolen. We live in UT and our credit card was used to buy someone's breakfast in Maryland. The credit card company caught it when they tried to buy car parts at autozone on their way home from work. :P

It isn't the first time we've trouble, just the most recent. The credit card company caught it last time as well. The very first time it happened, someone's probation officer caught their client with one of our cash advance checks forged and ready to cash. We had just moved and not all of the mail had been forwarded yet.

Yeah, it's happened to my husband's a few times. His debit card was compromised and luckily the card company called each time and caught the 'suspicious' behavior.

I've had my card info compromised a couple times when online stores have been hacked, but never had any fraudulent charges (thankfully!) I think the card companies are pretty careful these days. My dad & husband were driving from CA to ID when my aunt moved here. They made several stops for gas & the card co. suspended the card & called here to verify. Good thing my mom & I were home or they would have been stuck.

A few decades ago, I had a woman charge $1,500 for a plane ticket from somewhere in the northeast to Egypt, as I recall, on my American Express card. I got a letter from Amex (this was long before email and the internet) asking me to call me asap, that they felt there was a fraudulent charge on my card because the charge wasn't my usual spending habit. I called and they took it off. They figured it was someone who just gave their cc number over the phone and the ticket agent either transposed some digits or wrote down the wrong digit(s).

Thankfully, I haven't had anything else happen.

We've been really lucky so far. (Hope I haven't just jinxed everything!!) A few years ago I was getting ready to take a trip and knew I was going to be using my VISA for a lot of transactions that would be completely out of my usual pattern so I called the bank. The agent I spoke to made some notes in the account about how I always travel to somewhere in the US in late April or May so that in future there wouldn't be questions. I think that as the chip-and-pin technology becomes the standard, fraud should really drop off.

several years ago someone had hacked into paypal and some how stole our account information. We had over $1,500 taken from our checking account. Luckily Wells Fargo and Visa took care of it but man what an experience.

How about fraud that WASN'T!? LOL DH tried to book our airline tickets for our next trip to Australia and the credit card company only processed one of the three tickets. They said the charges were fraudulent. Um. Took DH more than hour of being on the phone with the card company AND the airline to get it sorted out. He was like ... DUH!!! Look at our spending history - we go to Australia about every 18-24 months. This is not unusual. Of course, the airline wouldn't / couldn't talk to the credit card company (of course they couldn't! ), so DH had his cell phone on speaker, and the home land-line on speaker and held the two phones next to each other, and yelled at both places to figure it out. LOL Pity I didn't have my camera for that one.
