YAY! I love Wednesdays, (err… Thursdays, OOPS!) when we get to play with a kit and show you just how versatile it can be! This week, we worked with Meredith Fenwick’s Apron Strings Mini Kit:
Can you believe how much is packed into this kit? And, guess what? It’s $1. That’s right: this is one of our Dollar Days kits, and is only one dollar through February. Of course, we’ll be giving it away free to someone this week, with details later in the post on how you can win it!
I confess… I’m the rule-bender this week. I just loved this kit, and couldn’t resist creating my own page even though we already had four layouts.

Six photos, which is definitely out of the ordinary for me! I started with Tiffany Tillman’s Scrappable Template-028, although I modified it to suit me. I clustered my title and journaling together, and anchored them with staples. I also aged my white layer, to match the distressing on the the grid paper and lined label. Plenty of white space and an orderly, grid-like design helps to keep this page from being too busy.
Next up, we have a great layout by Lori Pickens:

I really like the fun border she made by layering the tab labels at different angles; what a great idea! Using a different photo mat for her center photo definitely keeps the focus there, and I also really like the way Lori stitched down the journaling label. A perfect page to show off those adorable photos!
Katherine Hansen shares this page with us:

I absolutely love the muted colors in her photo; it really is striking! She also stitched everything down (did you notice that?) giving her page a whimsical, home-made look. Although she has a lot of little pieces in different patterns, the clustering helps to keep it organized, and the sprinkling of stars is the perfect finishing touch!
We also have this layout by Theresa Marie Goon:

I love layouts like this, that really tell a story. The photo of her daughter (holding a favorite stuffed animal), and the title helps me to know at a glance what the layout is about, while there are so many more details in the journaling. The sparkle border connects everything together beautifully. Really, isn’t this the reason we all scrapbook in the first place?
Carey Bridges wraps us up with this super fun layout:

She also has lots of layering on her layout, but since the kit and photo colors match, it’s still easy on the eyes. The casual, haphazard tilt to her photos helps keep the playful feel of the page, and the star and sparkle borders really finish it off. Now I’m wondering: Does he have pajamas that match all of his Wii games?
So, wanna win Apron Strings? Leave a comment here, telling me about aprons… are you pro or against? Make your own? Wear your grandma’s? Have one that says ‘Kiss the Cook’?
(I’m a collector myself. I own 7; some vintage, some purchased. My latest? My mom made one for me using my great-grandma’s pattern for Christmas. All four of my kids have their own, and my girls actually have two each. Hmm… I sense a layout coming on!)
P.S. Check out last week’s winner here!

I have a couple of aprons. I think they were both wedding presents from my shower. I don’t really ever wear them. Although I probably should, b/c I tend to make a mess
I have lots of aprons but always forget to wear them! Some are vintage from my grandma, some I have made, including a recent one I made to wear at our school’s book fair. I was the chairperson and it was a diner theme. So I made myself an apron with the fair logo in the front and embellished with puff paint and a napkin name tag!!! I am going to wear it again tomorrow when I serve Italian sodas to a classroom of kids!
love the layouts! great stuff….no aprons here. hubbby is really the cook and sadly he just uses his shirts!
Great kit!! And only a dollar? What a deal.
I’m pro apron. I think they are a great idea but I must confess that I should wear one more often. I come from work and get started making dinner right away because it is late. You would think I would put one on to protect my work clothes but I often don’t. My favorite to wear (usually on weekends) is one that my husband’s grandmother made because it covers a lot. I’ve worn it so often that it is ready to fall apart because the fabric is so thin. I also have a beautiful one that my sister-in-law bought me. It is so pretty that I never want to wear it. Way more information than you probably wanted but I liked the question…..lol.
Thanks for the give away opportunity.
No aprons in my house. I do tend to cook with at least one towel thrown over my shoulder, however. So that serves much of the same purpose as an apron, right?
If I remember to put an apron on I’m a happy girl. Most of the time I didn’t get dressed for the day so it’s not a big deal to get a little messy. I have 2 aprons, and one that was my Great Grandma’s.
The only apron in my house is a Making Memories “Slice” apron that I wear when I am scrapbooking (w/ paper)….you know, like if I am breaking out the paint or whatever. Actually, I just feel like a real “professional” scrapper when I wear it. BUT! I haven’t had to pull it out for quite sometime since I have tooootally got myself hooked on digital scrapping! Wow! Soooooo addicting!
My grandmother ALWAYS wore an apron when she cooked, or cleaned. So aprons bring back a lot of fond memories for me. She passed away and my sister got all the aprons because everyone in my family knows just how much I LOOOOVE cooking! “NOT!”
Thanks so much,
