1 Kit, 4 Ways – Winter Whisper

It may not officially be winter here yet, but this week’s kit sure gets me in the mood!

Agnes Biro’s Winter Whisper definitely evokes feelings of a crisp, cold winter morning with it’s cool color scheme. Let’s take a look at some gorgeous layouts created by the Design House Digital Decorators, shall we?

Layout by Celeste Smith

Celeste says: “The cool blues and greys in this kit were just perfect for scrapping our first snowfall this year. Agnes always packs her kits with unique elements. This collaboration with Dido Designs does not disappoint! I fell in love with the washi tape she included in the kit and the snowflakes really add fantastic wintery touch to my page.”

Layout by Tiffany Bodily

Tiffany says: “This kit will work perfectly for most of the next three months of weather in Idaho. Heck who am I kidding… It will work until April. I wish the cold winter days didn’t settle in for so long here, but with beautiful kits like this I just might get inspired to go outside and snap more photos. I loved the cool blue/grey tones in this kit and the snowflake elements are delicious enough to make you try to catch them on your tongue.”

Layout by Carey Bridges

Carey says: “The browns and blues of this gorgeous kit were the perfect backdrop for a fun winter photo. All of the little details in the papers and elements are absolutely gorgeous and their subtlety adds to the winter theme without over-powering the photo. I love the snow texture and knew that I had to use it! The frame with distressed overlay gives a worn, well-loved feel to the photo and layout. I added several layers to be able to use more of the fun patterns of papers and used stitches from Robyn Meierotto’s Kraft Party Elements to hold the paper strips down. I can’t wait to use the Winter Whisper kit again so I can add the adorable owl!”

Layout by Lori Pickens

Lori says: “Such a fun and whispy kit. Lots of fun winter elements to mix and match. I also love how several of them has a glitter accent to them – gives cold winter layouts a fun glisten and sparkle.”

Hybrid Light Covers – 20 Days of Christmas

December is here and it’s time to decorate!

I hope you are feeling festive today because I have a really fun way to decorate your indoor lights! We will be creating Christmas Light Covers! I originally saw the idea for a Halloween theme on Pinterest and thought it would be perfect to use for Christmas as well!

So here we go! It’s really easy! The first thing you need to do is pick a bold colored Christmas kit – I chose Shannon Hegartys’s Peppermint Papers because, well,  they looked so yummy!

Additional supplies:

*small paper cups (I used dixie-type cups)

* a string of Christmas lights

* craft knife

* scissors

* black marker

* double sided adhesive

I used PSE 7 for this tutorial.  So here’s what you do:

Choose three different patterns from your paper stash.

Open a letter size document (8.5×11) and drag the first pattern to it.

Save as a .JPG and print the  image.

Repeat above for the other two patterns.

You should have three sheets printed. This will make 12 cup covers.  If you would like a longer strand of 24, then print out three more sheets.

Take one of the small cups and very carefully peel it apart. Start with the rim at the top and uncurl it and then carefully rip the seam. You should have a nice curved template of the side of the cup. Discard the bottom piece. See photo below.

By tracing your template close together on the back of each sheet you should be able to trace four cup covers.

Cut out each one using scissors.

Each cover will fit very snuggly around the paper cup. Use strong double sided adhesive to seal.

Now slice a tiny X on the bottom of each cup using a sharp craft knife.  This will allow you to feed the light bulb through the cup cover so don’t make the X too big as you want a snug fit.

Now just string up your adorable light covers on a window or fire place mantel!

*frame from Shannon Hegarty and elements from Lori Whitlock

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Have a Merry Christmas!

Layout of the Week

There were so many amazing layouts in the gallery this week, from holiday layouts (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas) to every day sweetness to hybrid projects that put me in the mood to create! It really was a difficult choice, but I finally chose “Snow White” by daiti73 as Layout of the Week.

The photos and color scheme are just so striking – I love how the red really pops on the black and brings out the red apple in the photos while also contrasting the girl’s delicate skin. Beautiful photos, beautiful girl and costume, and fantastic use of this template (52 Thursday Templates No. 25 by Tiffany Tillman) and the splatters. Simply gorgeous!

Congratulations daiti73, you have won a $5 DHD gift certificate!  Thanks for sharing this layout with us!

Would you like to see your page featured as our Layout of the Week?  It’s easy…upload your pages (using at least 50% DHD product) to our member gallery. We’ll choose a new Layout of the Week each Tuesday!
