1 Kit, 4 Ways – Count Your Memories

Another Wednesday, another collab… this week, we’ve got Count Your Memories Part 1 and Part 2 by the ever-so-fabulous Audrey Neal and Erica Coombs:

This super graphic, super fun kit is gender neutral and great for just about any theme! Let’s take a look at what the Design House Decorators and I came up with, and I’m sure you’ll agree.

Layout by Gennifer Bursett

I designed a simple grid-style layout. I broke up the straight lines using Deco Cuts, and by offsetting the journaling prompts I loved so much. The bright colors are tempered by the dark background, and stitching and splats also helped rough it up. Sequins and the bow give just the right dimension to this layout about my husband.

Layout by Missy Backues

Missy says: “I really liked the bold graphics in this fun collaboration between Audrey and Erica! I started with a great textured red background and then added only black/white/and red accents. Erica’s template helped me start with a fun design but I kept only some of the items for this layout since I didn’t have as many photos as the template showed this time. The variety of number elements in these two kits are fantastic and of course I had to use them too. So versatile!”

Layout by Jennifer Valencia

Jennifer says: “I loved Erica’s templates and knew the one with multiple film strips would be perfect for a layout using lots of my cell phone photos, which I love but hardly ever seem to use. I added some numbers from Audrey’s kit to label the strips and used text to describe what was going on in each fun memory-photo. A few embellies and papers by Audrey finished off the two-page layout!”

Layout by Liz Jutila

Liz says: “When each of my granddaughters turned six months old, I asked their mommy (my dd) to write “their story.” Turns out a six-month old has a lot to say! So, I was super excited to see all that glorious open space on Erica’s first template in the kit — this is the perfect journaler’s template. The great thing about templates is you can make them your own, too. So, I gave myself a little more room by expanding the journal mat just a bit, and changing the format to column style journaling to make all that text a little more readable. This kit is PACKED with fun elements and bright papers. Lots of “counting” tools in this one, which was perfect for telling the baby’s six-month story. I’m already planning how to use this kit for list-style lo’s, or learning to count pages, or months of the year Project Life spreads. And, because there are so many different papers included, I know each new lo will be different from the last.”

Pretty darn awesome, aren’t they? Ready for your chance to win both parts of this fantastic collab? Comment here, and answer this:

What’s the last thing you counted?

Me? Well, I counted on one more day before I had to clean up the house, but my husband came home early today from his business trip. Totally worth it, though. ;)

We’ll be back next week to choose a winner, but in the meantime be sure to check out Audrey’s and Erica’s shops this weekend, for some great deals you can count on. (HA!) Plus, you can grab some free kits and dollar kits, and chat with them at 3 PM MST on Sunday for a little extra fun.

(Congrats to Julia M. in MI, who wins last week’s collab!)

1 Kit, 4 Ways: Softly

I’m back with another 1 Kit, 4 Ways, and it may be a day late, but it’s definitely worth it! This week, Robyn Meierotto and Audrey Neal teamed up to bring you Softly:

It’s a gorgeous kit in a great color scheme. Let’s take a look at what the Design House Decorators and I did with it:

Layout by Gennifer Bursett

This kit was perfect for some photos of my niece at 9 months. I used the clipping mask to play with some mists, which adds a bit of texture to the super cool wood background. Loved the pre-stitched elements for a quick and easy addition, and lots of paper layered together to frame her sweet face. A quick and easy page, full of interest!

Layout by Jennifer Valencia

Jennifer says: “I LOVED the Spring greens, yellows and gentle grays in this kit, along with the gorgeous butterfly theme & the amazing alpha. I grabbed a luscious green for my page b/c and layered it with a butterfly green paper to create the perfect style. A few embellies, an alpha title, and voila! My page about my daughter wearing her Raspberry Torte outfit was complete.”

Layout by Anna Drozd

Anna says: “I’ve been in love with dollies and ornamental frames for a while so when I saw those in this kit I knew I wanted to build a page around them. I found a photo of my niece that would match this vintage/feminine style and the Robyn’s wordart. Last but not least, I added a few cute embellies to finish it off … and voila!”

Layout by Carey Bridges

Carey says: “I love the bright colors paired with neutrals in this collaboration kit. The nice selection of universal patterns lets the papers work well with just about any subject or theme. The elements in this kit make putting together a layout a snap – some of the layering and stitching is already done for you! The fun alpha is the perfect finishing touch.”

I can’t get over how different these layouts all look, which just goes to show you how versatile this kit is! Ready for your chance to win Softly – Part 1 and Part 2? Comment here, and answer this:

What’s the last thing you did softly?

I confess, I “softly” opened the cookie jar last night to snag a treat after the kids went to bed. (Yes, I’m THAT mom!) We’ll be back next week to choose a winner, but in the meantime, be sure to check out Robyn’s and Audrey’s shops this weekend for some killer sales. Plus, stop by to chat with Robyn and Audrey this Sunday, at 1 PM MST.

(Congrats to Sarah, who wins last week’s kit!)

4 Play

If you find that you’re coming down with a case of the Mondays, I hope our 4 Play feature will help vault you into the rest of a fabulous week. Each week we choose 4 kits from 4 Designers in the Design House Digital Shop to mix & match and then we share 4 different layouts by the Design House Decorators using those kits. The challenge is to ONLY use items from the 4 kits that are chosen.

Here are the kits I chose for this week’s feature:

Audrey Neal Everyday Celebrations Elements

Deena Rutter Maybe Solids

Kate Teague Life in April Papers

52 Thursday Templates No. 20

Let’s see what masterpieces the decorators have created this week!

Tiffany Bodily:

One of the great things about templates is the ability to resize them to create an entirely different look. I was able to create a page with some negative space by shrinking down the entire layout design. I then duplicated the scalloped portion of the template to make a strip across the bottom right corner. Looking at the foursome from this week, I don’t think I would have immediately thought “Valentine’s” but I love the way that I was able to combine these kits to create a more masculine look for my son’s Valentines from a few years ago.

Audrey Neal:

Different templates lend themselves to different types of layouts, and when I saw Tiffany’s template this week, I realized that it was perfect for really letting my photos take center stage. I simplified the layout even further by deleting the scalloped edge, and then I flipped the entire design so that my photos were on the right side. The blues and grays in Deena and Kate’s paper packs coordinated beautifully with the watery tones of my photos from Cassidy’s baptism, which I’ve been holding on to for the past few months. I kept my embellishments simple — a couple of buttons from my element pack, plus a small banner created from the twill ribbon and a circle element cut from Kate’s patterned paper. The result is a layout that I’m thrilled with, because it records such an important event in a way that lets the images really shine.

Celeste Smith:

I just love bright, cheerful colors and fell in love with Aria’s picks. I rotated Tiffany’s template 90 degrees to accommodate my three portrait oriented photos. Never one to shirk from multi-colored patterns I chose two from Kate’s paper pack. Then added solids from Deena’s pack. Audrey’s elements add the little touches I love – buttons and stitching!

Aria Andrus:

I absolutely love working with templates and bright, cheerful colors! The fun colors in these kits seemed to go well together and I’m also a big fan of multiple photos on scrapbook pages. Tiffany Tillman has so many great templates where you can tell stories using multiple photos on scrapbook pages. I loved using Audrey’s elements to create the title work in this layout and they combined so nicely with the papers.

Don’t forget that today only (ends Monday at midnight PST), you can get each of these kits for only a dollar, and one is even FREE! So go grab them, and then play along. Upload a layout using these four kits to the DHD gallery by Sunday, then come back here and post a link to it. Not only will you learn to stretch your kits, but you could win a gift certificate to DHD!

(Congratulations to janfrn, who wins a gift certificate for playing along with last week’s challenge! Be sure to leave her some love in the gallery!)

Top in the Shop

Gen here, happy to be bringing you my picks from another week of great new releases. And this week, the ones I chose are SO good I’ve already posted a layout in the gallery using all three!

First up, I’ve got Karla’s Tab Alphas. They debuted a few days ago, but if you didn’t snag them then, you should definitely do it today. They were a steal for a buck, but they are still well worth $3.99! So small and cute!

Next up is Robyn’s Cut It Out – Hand Cut & Stitched Layered Masks. The  newest of her Cut It Out kits; it’s super fun, super whimsical, and super versatile!

My final choice today is Karen’s Confetti Templates. I literally squealed when I saw these! She’s done all the hard work for you, even the shadows. Clip in a few papers or recolor, and you are DONE.

Jen here! So many pretty new kits today.

I love the bright and bold colors of Karla’s This Week Collection, and of course her elements are always to die for!

And speaking of bold… Audrey’s Tribal Elements are so much fun. After all the cool colors of winter, its so nice to have some bright summery colors to play with

Last but not least… but definitely small are Robyn’s Snippets! Cute little strips of paper will add just the right touch to any layout.

We hope you’ve enjoyed a peek at some of this week’s new releases! Don’t forget, today’s new releases are all 30% off until midnight, PST!
