How to make a Pinterest inspired Wall Hanging

Aloha friends, it’s me, bossy Joscie checking in with a simple hybrid home decor project.  I was browsing Pinterest the other day, as I have been known to do, and I came across this super cute and simple wall hanging idea.

and when I clicked through? It’s just painted shoe box lids! I thought, I could so do that. So I did.
Here’s what I used:

When I looked around our house for shoe box lids, I could only find my converse boxes whose lids are attached to the box and then shoe box lids that were too big so I opted for these inexpensive paper mache box lids from my craft store.

There were three lids in this set, one 4″ , one 5″, and one 6″ square.

I printed my 3 favorite papers on plain white paper and wrapped each lid like a present.

after wrapping 3, I decided I wanted to add two more in solid colors. I considered going back to the craft store for more box lids, but ultimately decided to make my own.  I got out a few pieces of scrap chipboard and cut out a 6″ square, 4-6″x1″ strips, a 5″ square and 4- 5″x1″ strips. Depending on the thickness of your chipboard, you may have to trim just a little bit off your strips to get them to the right size.

I used brown washi tape to tape the pieces together, you can use plain masking tape if you like.

I printed two solids on plain white paper and wrapped the box lids.

I added a gray satin bow to one box top.

You can move them around to determine your layout then use push pins to hang on the wall.

I also hung a painted Paper Mache Letter with the arrangement.
