4 Play

Hi there, it’s Janell bringing you a new 4 play challenge.  Each week we choose 4 kits to mix & match and scrap exclusively from these kits. The challenge is to ONLY use items from these 4 kits.  This challenge is not only for decorators, but we invite you to play too. These glorious kits are one sale for one day only so don’t miss out!

This week I was inspired by the icy blues of winter so I chose Dana’s Lakeside Worn papers and combined them with some fun elements, frames, and some beautiful contrasting patterned papers.

Our first layout is from :

Liz says: “Dana’s worn papers are so versatile! I loved the combination with Celeste’s animal print paper. I’m a big fan of all things doodly, so Kate’s fun frames and Karla’s love elements gave the layout just the right feel to show off my little hat models in all their silliness. I can not get enough of Karla’s acrylic elements, and loved how the blended brushwork offset the acrylic and gave it just a little more dimension. These kits worked so easily together!”

Anna tells us, “I loved all four kits as they’re my favorite colors and have great patterns.  So I just opened the papers and elements from each kit that I liked the most and started to play with them, changing colours of brushes to match other elements on the page.  I liked the circle brushes by Karla a lot so I decided to use them creatively in my design of the page. And I added a photo that’s more abstract – not of a person – to make it look more like an artsy and messy art journal rather than a typical scrapbook layout.”

The next is from :

Jennifer shares: “I loved the colors in these selections, and paired up some great blue and yellow to match my niece’s shirt & ornament. A few embellies by Karla and the frame by Kate were all I needed to set off her cute photo! I love using non-traditional colors for Christmas; as much as I love red and green, sometimes blue and yellow are just the ticket.”

Lastly, my layout:

“I loved the wintery look of the worn papers and wanted to combine them with striking patterns which was easy to do using Celeste designs. I love Kara’s stitching and bright colored elements! I decided to turn Kate’s frames into a decorative edge by filling them with the worn papers and overlapping them to create a scalloped edge look.”

I hope you are inspired to play along this week. Don’t forget that today only (ends Monday at midnight PST), you can get each of these kits for only a dollar, and one is even FREE! So go grab them, and then play along. Upload a layout using these four kits to the DHD gallery by Sunday, then come back here and post a link to it. Not only will you learn to stretch your kits, but you could win a gift certificate to DHD!

Congratulations to (treasurebachs) the winner of last week’s 4 Play Challenge.
