Layout of the Week

Hello again! Time for another fabulous layout from the DHD Gallery! This page, called Delight by gwadatiti, really jumped out at me! I love how she took the same photo and created a multi-photo layout from it! The black and white really stands out against the polka-dot background, and the word art and doodle scallop balance it all nicely!

Thank you, gawdatiti for sharing your stunning layout with us!  For that, you’ve won a $5 DHD gift certificate!

Mobile Mini Album

I am really excited to share with y’all a little project I have been working on. I have spent the past several weeks trying to think of a good present to give to my mom on Mother’s Day. I finally decided on creating a mini album with photographs of all of her grandchildren.

I had originally set out to create a traditional or hybrid album, but in the end decided that I wanted to do something completely digital. My mom loves her iPhone and has it with her all of the time—so having a mini album on her phone would be perfect. That way she will be able to easily share the layouts with others, and be able to look through them whenever and wherever she is at.

Here is what I did to create a ‘Mobile Min Album’ for my mom:

First, I looked at the iPhone specs to find out the resolution, which is 960 x 640 pixels at 326 ppi. I then created a 960 x 640 px (3 x 2 in) photoshop document and started creating layouts. Super easy, quick and fun! I saved all of my layouts as jpeg files and on Mother’s day I will upload the photos onto my moms phone—I can’t wait for her to see the album!

Here are a few of the layouts that I created:

iPhone Mini Scrapbook Album, sample 1

iPhone Mini Scrapbook Album, sample 2

iPhone Mini Scrapbook Album, sample 3Aren’t they cute? This could also be done with other mobile devices (iPad, kindle fire, nook tablet etc.) as well. All you have to do is find out the resolution of the screen. A mobile mini album is great for a gift, or to make for yourself and is a fun and easy way to share memories with others.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating a layout for the iphone:

  • Don’t crop the photos too small or they will be hard to see on the small screen
  • Don’t set your type too small
  • Make sure that all of your album pages have the same orientation
  • Keep the layout simple
  • Work at 100%—this helps in making sure that type and photos don’t get too small. Because of the small size, if you zoom in beyond 100% you will start to see pixelation.
  • To keep my layouts nice crisp, I flattened my document and sharpened it a bit before saving as a jpeg.
  • To keep your colors as true as possible, make sure that you are saving the jpeg with the correct color space (sRGB)

    Layout of the Week

I hope everyone enjoyed the DHD iNSD festivities! There are so many amazing layouts in the gallery this week! As usual it was difficult to choose just one! This week Tinkelbel won me over with her Four Smiling Faces page.  I love the layering effect she created with the papers and elements, and the colours are all so warm and inviting. She finishes it off nicely with that wonderful photo treatment.

Thank you, Tinkelbel for sharing your fantastic layout with us!  For that, you’ve won a $5 DHD gift certificate!

    Layout of the Week

I loved the April Scraplift Challenge this month! So many fun layouts were created from it! One of my faves from this week was from daiti73! Her stunning layout Day at the Fair was just so much fun to look at! I love the soft palette combined with the wonderful black and white photo (and how cute are those little ones holding hands?). She did a great job on stitching her paper bits and using those scalloped borders – they were the perfect added detail!
