Design House Decorators (Creative Team Members)

Design House Digital is currently looking for new decorators! If you want more information, send an email to amanda@designhousedigital.com. We have a great time! Decorators are paid in free product, and gain a lot of experience. Many things you do can go on your resume, and will help you in future. For example, you can learn new skills related to blogging with WordPress, social media marketing, and (of course) graphic design in your preferred software. There are also other perks and incentives specifically for our creative team.

This position is great for someone who needs to stay at home with small children, but wants to stay up-to-date with web & design technology, and wants to scrap her family’s experiences.

DECORATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

We need decorators who want to be creative and are open to having a great time in our online community. We work together with the designers and staff members to create amazing site content. Be prepared for a fast-paced environment geared towards inspiring creative people!

Design House Digital has three kinds of decorator positions. You can join one or all teams!

Layout Team

4 layouts a month (1 layout for a 1 Kit 4 Ways post; 1 layout for a 4play post)
Host a monthly challenge once a quarter
Host a 4play challenge once a quarter
Actively participate in the forums
Actively give praise in the gallery
Actively promote Design House Digital on Facebook & Pinterest

Hybrid team

2 cards a month (1 card for either a 1 Kit 4 Ways post or a 4play post; the other for whatever you want)
1 blogged hybrid project a month (not a card; we do material cost reimbursement)
Host a challenge once a quarter
Actively participate in the forums
Actively give praise in the gallery
Actively promote Design House Digital on Facebook & Pinterest

Tutorial team

1 video or blog tutorial a month
Host a challenge once a quarter
Actively participate in the forums

People on multiple DHD decorator teams

Every decorator is eligible for free product, so you have access to all types of digital materials. Decorators are more than welcome to join more than one DHD team, and we have some special incentives for our multi-team decorators.

Every decorator is required to host a challenge once a quarter, actively participate in the forums, and actively give praise in the gallery. If you join more than one team, you won’t have to double up on these requirements.

Exclusivity

Just to clarify: we used to require our decorators to be semi-exclusive to our shop. However, that is not the case anymore. Our decorators are welcome to be on as many creative teams as they wish.

Digital Designers

Right now, we are looking for experienced designers with large inventories. But, if you don’t have a large inventory but think the designer position is a perfect fit for you, please apply!

This position is strictly commission-based: you will get a flat percentage of whatever you sell.

Our Design Team

Our designers work closely together as a team and work with each other often. Every month, they work on our “House Party” collaboration series, where they share a color palette and build coordinating kits that are available for sale individually in the store. They also build several collaboration kits throughout the year. Every week, two designers pair up to create new kits as part of their featured designer weekend. They communicate often via email, forums, and Facebook. They also try to meet monthly on a conference call to encourage each other and to discuss issues related to store and digital design. If you come to Design House Digital, be prepared to work closely with our other designers: to share ideas, share techniques, and grow each other as we grow the shop as a whole.

We want active designers who will regularly:

put new kits in the shop
create 2 blog posts per quarter, containing inspiration or new techniques
contribute to our House Party collaboration series once per quarter
contribute to 6 free kits per year
host one challenge per quarter in our gallery
be active in our forums
grow their own brand through their own blog and/or social media accounts

Designer Applications

If you would like to join our fantastic team of designers, please send an email to mary@designhousedigital.com with the subject “I want to be a DHD designer!” and answer the following questions in the body of your email.

What’s your name?
Why do you want to join the DHD design team?
What made you get into designing, and what motivates you now?
What graphic design and scrapbooking design training have you completed? Do you have a degree in graphic design, or have you taken digital scrapbooking design courses? Be specific.
What can you bring to DHD that is uniquely “you?”
How do you think you will fit in with the other designers in the DHD design team?
Are you willing to put your digital designs in our shop exclusively? (Yes, DHD requires exclusivity from all of our designers)
What are the links to your blog and/or social media accounts?
What else do you want us to know about you?

If you currently sell at a different store:

Where can we download some samples of your work?
Where can we see your current store?
Where can we see some samples from your creative team?
How many kits do you sell each month on average? (this information will be kept strictly confidential)

If you are new to digital scrapbook design, and/or do not sell at a store, you must do the following BEFORE applying as a designer, to show how serious you are about this. If you do not include this, your application will not be considered. Remember to include your portfolio link in your application.

Create a portfolio on behance.net or a portfolio stack on ScrapStacks if you don’t already have one.
Link at least 10 12″x12″ digital scrapbooking papers in that portfolio, 8 each in three different themes, that contain only your own digital artwork
Include at least 14 digital scrapbooking elements, 4 each in at least three different themes, that contain only your own digital artwork
Include at least 6 digital scrapbooking layouts you have made yourself, using the original papers and elements you have made yourself
