13 Days of Halloween – Hybrid Halloween Banner

I have been working feverishly on finishing my decorations. One major item I wanted to make was a really artsy and eclectic banner for my mantleplace. This year I was really inspired by the idea of burlap and monochrome decorations. So when I designed my new Vintage Findings All Hallows Eve kit, I designed it with a very earthy desaturated feel. The papers translated into a banner with exactly the look and feel that I was going for. Hopefully this project will really showcase what these designs can do!

My first step was to print the designs that I wanted to use. Now I have a wide-format printer so I printed 12×18 sheets of paper. Each of my banners were around 5.5″x10.5″ So you could build something similar by printing on a regular letter sized paper. Each of my printed papers looked like this:

Once I had them printed, I cut them with my Cricut. (For a free template or SVG file, visit my personal blog – The Project Girl)

I made sure to cut a lot of extra banners and lots of different sizes just so I would have enough to play around with. After I cut out all my banners out, I cut out my letters (I used the free font BOSOX):

Then I just organized all the pieces into an order that I liked:

And then I just got to work embellishing the banners! Some of them i doubled up a large banner over another large banner. I also used ribbons, My Mind’s Eye brads, and some coffee-stained doilies to embellish each flag.

Once I had all my main flags decorated, I layed them all out on the floor and attached them to my burlap ribbon with pearl brads.

After this part, I placed the banner on my mantle and made sure the spacing felt right – moved and tweeked a few things, and then I added smaller flags in the empty spaces to make it feel especially filled in and rustic.

And here the banner is with a full-view of the mantle:

I’m still working on some art for the burlap frame and I need to put some creepy wording on the black board. But after that I’ll be all done with the fireplace decorations!

I hope this help inspire you and your holiday decor. What types of decorations do you like to make for holidays?

I forgot to add that we are posting a fall/halloween each day for the next 13 days! So check back daily for some spooky inspiration!
