Welcome to Design House Digital! I have the absolute privilege of hosting our very first design challenge.
If you’ve done a 365 before, or know about it, you’ve probably seen a couple of versions of it—take a picture everyday and whatnot. I don’t think that is necessarily for everyone and I believe it can become very overwhelming. There are lots of ways you can modify the 365 challenge to your life. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Take a picture everyday. Create 1 layout every day, every week, or monthly.
2. Take a picture once a week. Create 1 layout every week, or just 1 that month showcasing the highlights from each week.
3. Take a picture series once a week . Create 1 layout every week
4. Take a picture series once a month (5-20 photos in one day). Choose the day and possibly a theme and create 1-5 layouts of this photos binge!
5. Compile any photos that you took that month into one layout or a series of layouts. This is great for a “year in review” album to give away at the end of the year.
The best thing is to just be creative and do what seems the most intuitive for the way you scrap and the way to take photos.
The point of my doing this challenge is so that I can get my own scrapbooks in order. I have a scrapbook here and a project there, but it’s about time I got serious and really got together A BOOK…a book about my family, the little everyday details that make us tick, make us eccentric, and well, just makes us US. I’m hoping you want to do the same.
So are you ready to see the rules? The first rule is that you are NOT allowed to stress out about this. The second rule is that if you screw up and forget your plan is that you STILL COME BACK and start again the next month and you DON’T LOOK BACK! If you miss a month, who cares? The point is to put together this book as best you can with what time you allow yourself.
To help you out, I’ve compiled a list for you to get those juices flowing. You can use the everyday theme as a guide (I’ve included a daily calendar of themes that can be downloaded here) OR you can choose a month them OR just wing-it (Once again, using the “themes” is just meant to jump-start and inspire you to take photos!
Ready to get started? I’m taking photos today and will have my first layout posted soon. Go visit the Challenge Forums and post what option you think you’ll be doing this month and as you make layouts also post them. The gallery won’t be up for a couple more weeks, but we will be able to start linking people’s layouts when that happens.
We will be doing a random drawing on Feb 1st for everyone who participates in this challenge. In order to be put into the drawing, all you need to do is post your layout in the challenge thread on the forums. Because everybody will be doing “different” 365s, we’re just going to keep this simple and put everybody’s name in once whether you do 5 layouts or 1. We will then pull 3 people to win a $5 gift certificate in the DHD store on Feb 1st.
I’ve got my New Year’s Resolutions written down…ready, set, scrap!
