I recently purchased the Sure Cuts A Lot software so I can cut SVG files on my Cricut, and boy can I tell you how much fun I’m having! When I found out that we were doing hybrid Halloween projects I jumped for joy because I was seriously itching to use my newfound purchase asap.
I love Halloween because you can go all out with the decorations and it would never be too much. We have our porch and our windows decorated with all sorts of spooky decorations but nothing adorns the rest of the house. So when I saw this birdhouse at my local craft store I just knew it would be perfect for my very first SCAL project.
I created this spooktacular hybrid birdhouse using Deena Rutter’s Superstition Collection Cutting Files and matching Paper Pack. I absolutely love the cutting files and the fences and crow were a perfect addition to the birdhouse.
Directions:
- This house has an odd shape so to prevent from wasting paper I first cut out a template. Using my craft knife, I taped it to the back of the birdhouse and cut around the edges. This will be used to cut out the actual paper that you printed out. For the front of the house I cut out the hole for the peg before I glue it on. I glued on the paper using Mod Podge.
- Next I cut the roof and glued it onto the birdhouse.
- I then cut out the crow and the fences using my Cricut. This is the fun part!
- I then used black paint to paint the edges where I couldn’t put the paper on.
- After the paint dries, I covered the crow and the edges of the birdhouse with Stickles black glitter. This is definitely the best husband-complaint-free glitter!
- Because I wanted to use the fences I painted a cardboard 12X12 piece that my husband gets with his records. This will be used as the base.
- Once the cardboard dried I glued the fences using E6000 glue, the best glue on earth!
And there you have it! I really had so much fun with this spooktacular birdhouse.
