Well this is my Hybrid Project tutorial and I apologise as the end result is a bit rushed as I’ve had an amazingly busy week and only had 2 hours to make and photograph the project. I decided to create this only using tools that the average crafter has access to, I hope that you are inspired enough to create your own metal embellishments, plaques etc . If you love it you can get much better results using the correct tools.
- Just Basics – Photo Journal Card Templates Sarah Sullivan
- Boho Chic Brushes Sarah Sullivan
- Aluminium Craft foil 36 – 38 gauge
- Grey board ( or card from back of spiral notebook)
- Biro, Embossing tools, paintbrush ends , pro marker top, ( unless you own a set of metal working tools like Walnut Hollow beginners kit)
- Bathroom sealant or silicon glue
- Alcohol inks
- Pro markers
- Hi Tack glue
- Masking tape
- 2 pieces of fun foam or embossing pad
1 Firstly create the plaque you want to make I chose elements from Just Basics – Photo Journal Card Templates and Boho Chic Brushes both by Sarah Sullivan 2 I used the deco shaped journaling card template . I made the loop shapes by joining Os and stretching . Then I used one of the other Journal card templates to create the central frame. I added the bird from the boho brushes set. Then added Let your dreams take flight text. (You can use any images to create a design)
3 When you have finalised your design.Cut out your completed shape, Draw round the shape onto the grey board, Then cut out the grey board
4 With the masking tape, tape the cut out image to your craft foil. Place foil on top of the embossing pad or two pieces of fun foam. Then draw round all edges of black ink with the biro (I use biro so I can see where I have missed). This will impress the design into your craft foil.
5 When you have completed the design. Remove the masking tape and paper, and turn over. With a fine embossing tool emboss over the writing. Then gently emboss all the lines.
6 With a larger embossing tool or the end of a suitably sized paintbrush, start to emboss the shapes, as you can see from the front above I have embossed the words and the outside line and the frame around the bird. I then embossed the loops and finally the bird. (all from the back)
7 Turn over to the front. With fine embossing tool or fine paintbrush end. Gently emboss around the outside of the shapes to increase the definition. You can use the side of a pro marker as a sort of smoothing tool for the open areas or you can create texture in the background, When your happy move to step 88 With bathroom sealant or silicon glue (some silicon glues can cause some fumes so do in a well ventilated area) fill the back of the panel until smooth. LEAVE TO DRY (Unlike people who only have 2 hours LOL)
9 When dry glue grey board into position. Trim to 1/4 inch. Cut diagonally into any inward corners then glue down all edges. When dry you can gently go over any areas to add definition at this point.
10 With alcohol ink colour the outer frame. Then with black Pro Marker go over the writing, Then colour the bird and branches with Pro markers.
So this is my shabby Moroccan tin plaque, hope you like it.
I’d love to see any metalized digi elements that you make . Please add “Digi to metal” to your gallery title so I can check out your work
