4 Play!
Happy first Monday in July! It is hard to believe that June is already behind us. Well you know that Monday at Design House Digital means a new 4 Play challenge! I am happy to bring this to you today. When I thought about what kits I wanted to use this week I had a few photos of my son in mind, so I went in a more masculine direction. However, you can see by the Decorator samples below, that doesn’t mean just for the boys in your house. Enjoy and I hope you will play along this week.
Here are the previews of the kits this week. I have links listed below for your convenience in finding them in the shop.
Angie Hinksman – True Blue Solids
Gennifer Bursett – the Sprats Alpha
Karen Funk – Genuinely you digital elements
First up is my layout. I love the muted colors and the frame or mask options in the kit. I wanted the focus to be on the photo so I used minimal elements and a simple title. I reduced the opacity a bit for the grey paper to make it a bit lighter. I anchored the layout with some brush work and added the stars.
Next, we have Jennifer Valencia’s layout. Jennifer says “Blue is a perfect color for Father’s Day pictures, I thought, and was excited to find a perfectly-hued one in Angie’s paper pack. I drool a bit over her subtly-textured papers — they’re AWESOME for my style; there’s enough texture to make them interesting, yet not so much that it detracts from the photos. Karen had the perfect smooth frames in her pack and an embellishment that is so pretty I want to seriously eat it (you know the flair with the blue swirly on it? I think it would taste like hazelnut ganache.) Erica’s textured mask was also perfect. I like my layouts to be all square-square-squared away, but with a little bit of texture or rough edges popping out. And Gen’s alpha is super. I’m a sucker for acrylic alphas, because they’re so clean and subtle and work on pretty much ANY page. I know I’m gushing praise for these products, but they are seriously pretty awesome. And what I love especially this week is that all 4 products in the 4-Play are things that can be used over and over again, like basic building blocks. Have fun, everyone! Whether it’s Father’s Day, Smurfs, blueberries — I’m sure you have something blue that needs to be scrapped with these goodies!”
Here is a layout by Sarah Hemmert. Sarah says “The first thing I did when creating this layout is pick everything that I liked from the kits. I layered them all onto one page and then the fun started! I started moving things around and adding my shadows. I played with the blending of the mask, honeycomb pattern and the star- I wanted the texture of the paper to come through and to make those items look more grounded. My son actually came up with the title for the page and I loved the play on words that was created. The bright background paper was perfect for this summery picture. I tried a couple of the more neutral papers, but this one just popped for me.”
And finally, we have a layout by Mandi Buchanan. Mandi says “I love the kits that Mary picked this week! Angie’s papers were the perfect foundation for my page and I love their texture! Erica’s masks added a fun touch and Karen’s elements are amazing (LOVE the hexagon stamp!) I was able to keep the title grouped on my photo with Gen’s great clear alpha too! Hope you have as much fun as I did!”
Remember, that for today only (ends Monday at midnight PST), you can get each of these kits for only a dollar, and one is even FREE!
