4 Play

Hi friends!  I’m happy to bring to you another installment of the DHD 4 Play.  I tried to pick out some really versatile kits this week. I know many digital scrappers are busy working on their new daily, weekly, or monthly layouts and I think these kits would also work nicely for those projects as well as just capturing an everyday moment.  These kits are just a great addition to your go-to stash.

Zoey Papers 2 by Shannon Hegarty

Genuinely You Elements by Karen Funk

Tape it Easy by Agnes Biro

Virtual Bunny Paper Set by Angie Hinksman

The first adorable layout I want to show off featuring these 4 kits is from Jennifer Valencia.  Jennifer says “I loved the blues and greens and assembled some of them together for this picture of my daughter leaping on her bed for a picture. Pretty blues and greens always remind me of oceans and Hawaii and gorgeous stuff, even if they are paired with non-oceany things, and make my soul happy for a moment when I see them, so I was eager to have these papers in my stash. I’ve always admired how other scrappers (like Allison!) use arrows on their layouts, so I eagerly grabbed up Karen’s arrow and used it with excitement. YES. Arrows on layouts are fun…try it! You can add all kinds of cute footnotes and extra text with an arrow! Fun times! Cerulean blue…arrows….pics of my sweet kid….all I need is chocolate and Diet Pepsi to feel a moment of pure sitting-in-front-of-computer content.” (Additional Credit: Toolbox Shadows v.1 by Gennifer Bursett)

Next up is this wonderful layout by Liz Jutlia.  Liz wanted to tell us “One of my biggest scrapbooking challenges is working with photos that have busy, busy, busy clothing – and none of it ever matches! The patterned papers in both Shannon’s Zoey paper kit and Angie’s Virtual Bunny kit worked perfectly to tie in the girls’ clothes to give this layout unity. The kraft-colored waffle texture paper in Angie’s kit gave a nice restful background for all that pattern! I had fun masking the string from Karen’s element kit to make it weave in and out of the photo, paper and star combination, and then finished it off by tacking the string down with Agi’s tape. This was a fun lo to pull together, with so many elements to choose from!”  (Additional Credit: Toolbox Shadows v.1 by Gennifer Bursett)

I love this awesome layout by Joscie Cutchens.  Joscie tells us “I used Shannon’s Zoey Papers 2 to color Agnes’ tape strips to frame my three photos. I used Karen’s stitching over the tape strips for detail and interest. Karen’s three stars and star stamps create a visual triangle around my photos.”  (Additional Credit: Toolbox Shadows v.1 by Gennifer Bursett)

My own layout is the last one I have for you today.  My daughter’s school colors are blue and white, so I’m always happy when a kit has cute stuff in those colors.  I added in some strips of green as well because we both love green and it just looks good!  I kept the background neutral this time so I could use lots of patterned paper too.  I thought the mix of patterns would work out well with a fun font (MTF Jumpin’ Jack) to keep the layout with a youthful feeling.  Plus, not wanting to be the one thing not like the others, I also used Gen’s shadows on this layout, and every other one I make now.

I hope you are inspired to play along this week. Don’t forget that today only (ends Monday at midnight PST), you can get each of these kits for only a dollar, and one is even FREE! So go grab them, and then play along. Upload a layout using these four kits to the DHD gallery by Sunday, then come back here and post a link to it. Not only will you learn to stretch your kits, but you could win a gift certificate to DHD!

Now that you’ve made it to the end of this blog post, I’m happy to also give out a prize!  The winner of last week’s 4Play challenge is  jmarqstar65.  Congratulations, you’ve got a $5 DHD gift certificate headed your way!

Now, I need to find the tutorial for weaving elements like Liz Jutlia did with the string & the stars.
    Thanks for sharing.

I’m such a sucker for stars! But I didn’t use them on this layout. And I love to have string on my layouts, but not this one. http://www.designhousedigital.com/gallery/blueprint-challenge/p15212-janny26amp-3b-nanny.html
