1 Kit, 4 Ways – Handstitched Journal Boxes

1kit4ways

Who’s ready for more 1 Kit, 4 Ways? Buckle up, because this week we’re playing with some Handstitched Journal Boxes, by MaryAnn Wise!

I really love the texture that a bit of stitching can add to my page, but definitely not enough to lug out a sewing machine or start stitching by hand! These eight shapes come in both .abr (brush) and .png files, so they’re extremely versatile, and with a mixture of shapes and stitches, they’re perfect for many different layouts.

While scrapping this layout about my daughter and her friend at a preschool field trip, I used them to help bring the focus to one of my photos and to ‘stitch’ down my title. I love the mixture of the haphazard circle with the straight lines; it’s a great contrast! I added a strip of Deena Rutter’s Scarborough Fair – Open Air paper, which I tore using some of Tiffany Tillman’s Tears templates. MaryAnn’s Glitter Drops in green and one of the alphas from our Blog Hop kit finished the page off nicely, for a super quick, super easy page.

Heather Guenther used them as frames for her photos… what a great idea!  She shares this lovely layout with us, and says this: “I started with the circle handstitched journal box because there is something about flowers looking better cut into circles to me. I erased the part of the journaling stitches that would go over my photos and left them in the third one to put my journaling on. I decided to use MaryAnn’s Love You papers because they have a beautiful texture and color combination which seemed perfect for the photos. I then blended one of my photos right over the paper to give it even more flower impression texture to go with the photos. I finished the page with Deena’s A Kind Word vol. 2, which is handwritten wordart & fit in with my journaling and photos.”

Jennifer Valencia used MaryAnn’s Meadow Road kit for this pretty page! I love how the subtle green really let the photo take center stage, and the title and journaling pull on the pops of color from the photo… great layout!

I really love how Tiffany Bodily used the journal block here, keeping everything almost gridlike! She says: “I love how versatile these Handstitched Journal Boxes are. I duplicated and stacked one set of stitching along the left side of my design and placed my journaling there. On the photo I grabbed a straight segment of the double stitching and tacked the photo down along the right side. I felt that the stitching helped to pull all my design elements (from Jen Allyson’s Design 365 May Kit and Vanity Fair Persimmon Elements) together in a tidy box. I know that these Journal Boxes are going to quickly become a great “go-to” in my supply stash.”

Yep, Tiffany, I completely agree! The Handstitched Journal Boxes kit is a great basic, that will be used over and over! So, want to win it? Comment here, and answer me this: Are you organized &  linear, or free flowing & unconstrained? One commenter will be chosen randomly to win this fabulous kit!

(Congrats to Sarah, who loves looking at old Christmas photos! We’re sending her a Gift Certificate for Dainty Elements, just for commenting on last week’s post!)ex-guru2

    These are so cute !

I like to be well organized, specially in my mind. Unfortunately the rest of the world around me likes to mess things up.

  2. Lee Ann says:

I like how the stitching covers the title AND the photo.
It is a rich textural interest.

My scrapping tends to be linear but the rest of life is not.

  3. Sold – I love the way the stitching looks on these layouts!

I would like to think that I am organized, but deep down I have to admit that I am free flowing -or let’s be honest- a mess. With creative things, I am really liking the minimalistic/simplistic approach…with a little flare :)

  14. vixen says:

oh most of my pages are definitely linear, although when I just go with it and let it all flow freely, those pages are my most creative soooo, it depends on my scrappin’ state of mind

(am also addicted to stitches) lol

  15. Katie says:

    LOVE THESE!
I am organized and linear and I’m trying so hard to let go and be crazy with my pages. It’s oh so hard!
