1 Kit, 4 Ways – Garden Trellis Collection

Ever since I highlighted Melissa Esplin’s Garden Trellis papers for our Top in the Shop feature, I’ve been dying to use them!

Garden Trellis – The Collection is such a fabulous mix of colors, and the subtle graphic patterns provide the perfect punch! Keep reading, for your chance to win this versatile kit!

I went with my first instinct, and scrapped these photos of my kids on Easter, 2006. A template by Tiffany Tillman (from Collection 2) started me off, although I modified it along the way. Since my photo was not the best quality, I switched it to a soft B&W. A mixture of patterned papers and blank labels from the blog kit (forming teeny tiny journaling tags) made up the bulk of my page, but I took the bright colors all the way across the page with my title, matching the colors up to the hydrangea, which happens to be my favorite flower!

Karen Funk loved all of the papers in this collection, but didn’t want her layout to be cluttered. By using the patterns in small amounts, she was able to overindulge. Changing the photo to B&W keeps it as the focal point, even though it’s surrounded by lots of pattern and color. The border, flower, and tag finish off her page nicely, and the centered elements keep it easy to look at. See? White space doesn’t have to be white!

Missy Backues also started with a template, this time from Tiffany’s Template Collection 12. The pretty pink papers are perfect for these pretty girls! By adding a stroke around the papers, Missy helps to define them, and keeps the small patterns from blending together. A paint brush smear on the bottom paper gives her a place to note the date and the names, again, making it easier to read on the small pattern. Pinkalicious!

Susan Haglund was certainly not scared to mix her papers, and neither should you! She played off the word ‘Trellis’ (in the kit name) by using strips of paper and layering them in an over/under pattern. Again, changing the photos to B&W helps to draw your eye right there, and a touch of blue was the perfect personalized touch, since that’s her daughter’s favorite color. (Love the shot of her braids, too!)

Are you ready to win Garden Trellis – The Collection? Comment here, and tell me what your favorite flower is… are you a sucker for sweet peas? In love with lilies? Gaga over gerbera daisies? I want to know!

My most favorite flower in the entire world is the gardenia! I could spend all day just sitting on the porch, drinking in their heavenly smell!

  5. Gennifer says:

Ooh, gardenias. My grandma’s favorite flower, so it’s become one of mine, too.

  6. Katy says:

I love hydrangeas! They are very hardy, can change color depending on their soil (you can even change the color by adding coffee grounds to the soil!), and are so easy to use in cut arrangements for inside. I have one in my backyard and I can have fresh cut flowers every week! Mine is a beautiful Carolina blue.

My favorite flower is a dahlia. I love their colors and the different varieties. I always smile when I look at them!

  8. Patsy says:

Right now my favorite flower is the clematis as mine are blooming and the huge purple blossoms are so gorgeous.

  9. Denise says:

My favorite are lilies of the valley, which grew around my grandma’s front porch. I tried to transplant some live ones from the Midwest (where I grew up) to sunny Arizona, but that didn’t work out so well!

  10. Amy says:

My favorite flower is peony. The white are nice but the magenta ones in Grandma’s backyard (she’s been gone almost a year now) have always been my very favorite.

  11. Linda says:

One of my favorite flowers are sunflowers. There are so many different varieties and colors. Not only are they beautiful, in the fall, you can let them dry & get sunflower seeds from them or leave them for the birds & small animals.

  12. Cheryl Allen says:

I Love ALL flowers but my very favorite is a Gerber Daisy. I Love all colors!
