This week, we’re playing around Dainty Complete Embellishment Collection, by Sara Schmutz:
The soft pastels paired with chocolate brown really are a sweet combination, and they’ll provide the perfect finishing touch to many layouts!
I started off with this photo of my grandmother in HS. The polka dot paper from Carina Gardner’s Pinfeathers (Jumping Mushrooms 2) kit provided the perfect amount of pattern, and I aged the papers for extra dimension, using Tiffany Tillman’s Tears Set 2. I really wanted the photo and journaling to be the focal point, so a row of labels lined up formed a strong visual line between the two, accented with a couple more word tags on the left to balance it out.

Heather Guenther walks us through her process: “The simple wordart “my thoughts” instantly had me thinking about journaling so I decided to do a page which was focused on just that… my thoughts currently and my mind keeps going back to the ocean these days. I chose one of my photos from a trip last year which I found very therapeutic and blended it against white paper to get a very soft, serene beach photo. I then blended the “my thoughts” wordart with the paper to soft its appearance. Then I wanted to draw out the pretty tones of the scene so used Sara’s dainty photo corners and borders to just give a touch of softness and color to the edges of the layout. The little word strips were perfect to help me fill in some areas that I felt were a little bare in the photo and which are thoughts which come to mind when I stare out at the vastness of the ocean.”

Next, we’ll hear how Tiffany Bodily found her way to this simple & sweet layout: “Just like the word art supplied in this kit I wanted to keep my LO simple and sweet. The soft pastel colors and basic embellishments lent themselves beautifully to create a soft and tender setting for this precious baby photo. The lace border and photo corner were just enough for the perfect finishing touches to this feminine page.”

Renee Fink wraps us up this week, with her fabulous page: “The colors of this kit just seemed to cry out for a vintage layout. The soft green, peach and brown instantly reminded me of this family photo from my childhood. I wanted to keep this focus of this layout on the photo. My mom had this photo hanging in the hallway for decades and it reminds me of simple, summer days exploring the barns and fields with my brother on our childhood farm. That house we lived in no longer exists but this photo seems to bring back so many of those memories that I can almost smell the air after a summer rain.”

Loving this kit? Comment here, telling me about your favorite family photo growing up, and you could win it! Me? Hands down, the infamous Orange Gingham one. My five sisters and I, plus my parents, in matching orange gingham outfits (sewn by my mom), and my dad has a permed afro and mustache. Groovy.
(Congrats to Amanda Sam, who won last week‘s kit, PlayZone. Hopefully the bright and cheery colors make up for the cool, cloudy, and rainy weather she was having!)

Bye,
Venusfortuna.
Very nice soft colors — so versatile. Thanks for an chance to win. I’d love this one.
The colors remind me of when I was a kid. Just simple, life was so much more relaxed back then.
I love to look back at the Christmas pictures of all of us together in front of the tree—mom, dad, my sister, my brother and me—when we were little and mom could convince us to dress up!
ooh pretty…love the samples! my favorite photo is a snapshot where I am just under 2 and one of my brothers is behind me at age 6. This brother died at 29 in the military and was the one I was closest to growing up; it reminds me of how he was always looking out for his baby sister. It was a very quick snapshot…nothing special…but I am wearing a frilly dress (the only girl) as my mom loved to dress me this way but by 4 I was in pants and a true “tomgirl”.
My fave family photo growing up is one of my family at a picnic — we are all sitting on a blanket and eating our lunch. Its a black and white shot and my mom, sister and I are all in dresses and my dad and brothers are in their casual clothes. Its one of the few photos of all of us together that I can remember.
Cute!
My favorite family picture growing up is a professional one taken when my little brother was just a baby. My mom always did such a good job coordinating clothes and I just love it. Probably because it was the last picture that we took before I went away to college and those are the last memories of all of the family together before we all started to go our separate ways.
Thanks for the chance to win!
ohh i like this kit:)
i have a picture of me as a little girl where i am just peeking out from the side. so me at that age:)
My favorite photo is one of me proudly clutching my chubby baby brother after I tied a babushka around his head.
I love the softness of this kit!
My favorite family photo I’m not even in because I am the youngest and wasn’t born yet but it was taken 1981 and the clothes and looks on all my siblings faces are just SOOOOO cute!
