Hello DHD fans, it’s Joscie checking in with a hybrid advent calendar to help the kids enjoy the countdown to Christmas.

Here’s what I used:

Plain White Cardstock, Mini Paper Bags, Glue Dots, American Crafts Foam adhesive, Hot Glue Gun, Big Shot, Tim Holtz Rosette Die, Paper Tray Ink Label Dies, Marvy 2″ circle punch, Fiskars 1″ circle punch, Creative Charms Adhesive Gems, Canvas, Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze Tinsel Town, foam brush, Scissors, Paper Trimmer, Divine Twine, White buttons, Printer.
I was thinking about using library card envelopes and then I found these bags in my stash- 2.99 from Hobby Lobby and 2 bags of 12? just the right number for my project!
In Photoshop, I opened a new 8.5″ x 11″ 300 ppi document and added tags and labels from Deena’s Jolly Holiday kit. I resized all so none were wider than the size of my bags.

I also printed various patterned papers from Deena’s Jolly Holiday Kit on plain white cardstock.

I cut strips 1.75″ x 11″ out of the patterned papers.
I used the Tim Holtz rosette Die to cut the strips.

I accordion folded the strips.

I adhered the ends and pushed the centers in.
I used large flat glue dots in the center of the rosettes to both hold them together and to adhere them to the bags.

If you don’t have glue dots, you can use a hot glue gun.

Hand cut the labels and tags.

In Photoshop, I added Robyn’s Vintage Newsprint Numbers over some of Deena’s Patterned Paper and printed on plain white cardstock.

I used a 1″ circle punch to punch the numbers.

I lay out all of the bags and started planning which elements would go where.

I tied some divine twine Christmas Twine in some white buttons and adhered with the hot glue gun (since it was handy).
I used American Crafts Foam Adhesive Squares to adhere all the numbers for dimension.

I added self adhesive gems from Creative charms on some labels.

I tied divine twine on mini bottle brush trees.

I used the hot glue gun to adhere the trees.
More Creative Charms adhesive gems.

I painted my canvas with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Tinsel Town. It dries very quickly.

I used a laser level to beam a straight line across my canvas to help me lay the bags out in line.
I used one mini glue dot to adhere to the canvas.
I can remove the bags and add them to a december daily mini book.

I created these fun activity cards for my advent daily rewards:

You can use whatever activities or verses or story titles if you want to read a certain story each night.

I hope you like my advent calendar and are inspired to make something for the Holiday!

Tutorial: Hybrid Passport Covers
Hello DHD friends, it’s Joscie here to share a fun little project I whipped up.

We recently applied for and received passport booklets for our family. When I saw Audrey’s super cute Flight Path Kit I thought it would be a perfect kit to use to make paper covers for our passports. I love the color palette and the prints, it just makes me happy

- In Photoshop I created a blank 8.5 x 11″ file and designed my book cover.

- I made 3 different varieties and printed each on a plain piece of white cardstock.

- I used my Score tool to score fold marks for my book cover.
- When in doubt, choose the score column that is larger than smaller.
- Score two lines in the center 1/8″ apart.

- Trim cover down.
- Punch a hole in the center of the front and back covers, add eyelets.

- Thread divine twine or ribbon through eyelets.

- you can trim inner edges to cut bulk.

- Insert Passport and tie to secure.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my tutorial and are inspired to make something fun!

13 Days of Halloween – Halloween Hybrid Candle Decor

I absolutely love the papers from Jen Allyson’s Vintage Findings Kit

I wanted to make candle wraps to add to my Halloween Decor.

- I opened a new 8.5 x 11″ document and added 3 of my favorite papers.
- I really liked the dark wood grain paper too, but it did not print well on my first trial.
- I resized the top and bottom strips to fit the little vignettes in.
- I tiled another copy of the same paper underneath to add to the width of the strip.

- I printed on white vellum.

- I trimmed the strips and added adhesive to the ends.

- I bought these 3×6″ LED candles from Sam’s Club- no fire hazard!

- I wrapped each candle with a strip.

I hope you like these candle wraps and will try your own, they are super easy to make!

How to make a Hybrid My Favorite Things Mini Album
I absolutely fell in love with Gennifer Bursett’s Favorite Things collection when I first saw it in the store. I knew I wanted to make a little mini book with these to document our favorite things.

Have you see those popular SMASH books? They are basically coil bound albums with mixed pages where you can attach your items. I decided to make an album in that style.

- I decided to make my album size 7″ x 6″.
- I cut 3 pieces of Chipboard, 2- 7″ x 6″ 1- 1.5″ x 7″.

- I cut a piece of plain canvas to 9″ x 5″

- I printed papers back to back on Matte Photo Paper.
- I trimmed the papers to 5.5″ x 6.5″
- I also cut some kraft paper, white textured cardstock, tracing paper.
- I also added some envelopes and tags.

- I used my bind it all to punch holes in all the papers, envelopes and tags.

- I cut patterned paper to line the inside covers 2- 5 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ .
- I rounded 2 corners on each.

- I loaded the pages on a 5/8″ coil (pictured on a 1″ coil before I realized it was too big d’OH!).

- I cut a piece of cardstock 6.5″ x 12.
- I scored the cardstock at 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7.

- I folded the middle score like a mountain and all the others like valleys.
- I punched holes

- I put the scored cardstock on the binder rings and squeezed them shut with the bind it all.

- I used post it notes to show me what area to apply the gel medium to adhere the album to chipboard.

- I adhered the album to the chipboard.

- I adhered the patterned paper in the inside of the chipboard.
Here is the finished album, I didn’t photograph every page, but most of them.

- I added a little strip of patterned paper (3 3/8 x 2″) to the cover and a piece of washi tape.

- I created this page in PS and printed 4 copies. I plan to fill it by interviewing each member of our family.

- miscellaneous printed pages, kraft cardstock

- each section has the same number of pages, one tag and one envelope.

I can’t wait to fill this album up with our family favorites. I am planning to add instax mini photos and memorabilia with washi tape and staples.
Notes
if you want the cover to be longer than the inside pages:
coil size + page length < chipboard cover
if you want it to be even:
coil size + page length = chipboard cover
If you want all even cuts:
album chipboard 5 1/8 x 6, coil 5/8″, inside pages 4.5 x6″, cardstock that gets glued to frame 5 7/8 x 12 (scored 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5,7)
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.

How to make a Pinterest inspired Wall Hanging
Aloha friends, it’s me, bossy Joscie checking in with a simple hybrid home decor project. I was browsing Pinterest the other day, as I have been known to do, and I came across this super cute and simple wall hanging idea.

Source: staciedwardsblog.ca via Joscelyne on Pinterest
and when I clicked through? It’s just painted shoe box lids! I thought, I could so do that. So I did.
Here’s what I used:

When I looked around our house for shoe box lids, I could only find my converse boxes whose lids are attached to the box and then shoe box lids that were too big so I opted for these inexpensive paper mache box lids from my craft store.

There were three lids in this set, one 4″ , one 5″, and one 6″ square.

I printed my 3 favorite papers on plain white paper and wrapped each lid like a present.

after wrapping 3, I decided I wanted to add two more in solid colors. I considered going back to the craft store for more box lids, but ultimately decided to make my own. I got out a few pieces of scrap chipboard and cut out a 6″ square, 4-6″x1″ strips, a 5″ square and 4- 5″x1″ strips. Depending on the thickness of your chipboard, you may have to trim just a little bit off your strips to get them to the right size.

I used brown washi tape to tape the pieces together, you can use plain masking tape if you like.

I printed two solids on plain white paper and wrapped the box lids.

I added a gray satin bow to one box top.
You can move them around to determine your layout then use push pins to hang on the wall.
I also hung a painted Paper Mache Letter with the arrangement.

I hope you like my Pinteresting Wall Hanging!
