Layout of the Week

There is so much going on at DHD this month! I hope you’ve all had a chance to check out the challenges and the Digi Scrap Competition as they are on Round 5! The challenges are producing some great layouts too! I love this one by daiti73! The colors are so bright and fun and I love the dark background. She did a great job altering the template and using the word circles and glitter. I love that she used the word strips to describe herself. She did an amazing job using circles which is a quality that I wish I could pull of in my layouts!

Our winner this week is daiti73 with her All About Me page!

Congratulations!!! Thanks for sharing this great layout — you’ve won a $5 gift certificate to DHD!

Layout of the Week

I have added so many layouts to my favorites this week! Obviously we have some very talented scrappers in our midst! I found it hard to narrow down which layouts I liked best though. I finally chose this layout because it’s different from what I’ve picked the last two weeks. It’s clean and simple and she totally rocked this style! I love clean layouts but always find myself trying to add lots of stuff to a page. This scrapper totally shows off the photos and still adds some interest with a little tape, the patterned paper base and a spattering of elements. They say “less is more” and this time it really is! Love it!

So our winner this week is sarah&cali with her Wonderful Day page!

Layout of the Week

Wow!!! There is a lot of exciting stuff going on around here! Have you checked out the March Madness sales and challenges? If not, it’s a good chance to win some great prizes and to get some amazing inspiration. There’s so many new layouts popping up in the gallery that I want to take a chance this week to pick out a layout that stood out to me.

This weeks layout of the week is First Wagon Ride by alittlebirdie. She used the kits from this weeks 4Play and she did such a great job!!! The first thing that pulled me in was the patterned background. I LOVE it when scrappers use patterned backgrounds. She also did a great job capturing those simple everyday moments with her pictures and her journaling. The clustering of elements, stitching and pops of teal just finish it off.

Congratulations!!! Thanks for sharing this great layout — you’ve won a $5 gift certificate to DHD!

Layout of the Week

This week’s Layout of the Week will be featured a few days later than usual but don’t worry, next week will be back on track! With February’s Dollar Deals and Super Bowl week not long ago, there have been some amazing layouts in the gallery lately!!! I’m always impressed by all the talented ladies out there and I love browsing all the new layouts. There are always a few that are just so much different than how I usually scrap and I’m really drawn to a layout that does something unique.

This week’s Layout of the Week is England by evadraga. Congratulations! I love her use of the circles, because I can’t usually scrap with circles and it’s such a fun way to incorporate more pictures into a layout! She was really creative with the template by moving the circles off to the side and putting in a full page photo. It’s just a beautiful page and I had to feature it.

Thanks for sharing this great layout — you’ve won a $5 gift certificate to DHD!

4 Play

Aren’t Mondays so much better when you have something to look forward to? Well, how about another week of the 4Play feature here at DHD!? Each week we choose 4 kits from 4 Designers in the Design House Digital Shop to mix & match and then we share 4 different layouts by the Design House Decorators using those kits. The challenge is to ONLY use items from the 4 kits that are chosen.

This week I’ve chosen the following kits:

Sara Schmutz’s Recollect Elements

Celeste Knight’s Menagerie Patterned Papers

Karen Funk’s Mayberry Solids

Agnes Brio’s Paint Accent 4 Brushes

Now for the fun part! Let’s see how the Decorators combined these kits!

Jennifer Valencia:

I LOVED the colors in these kits and found them to be a perfect match for some pictures of my daughter making paint. Agnes’ paint brush was the right accent for the page about painting, and I used yellow papers from Karen’s and Celeste’s kits to add color and shape to some boxes. Sara’s tags were perfect for a date title, and I though they also picked up the round shape & bright color of the lemon halves in the photos themselves. I also get excited when I can match the color and shape of my embellies to things actually IN my photos!

Mary Rogers:

When I started looking at the elements from Sara’s kit I saw the So Lucky ticket and knew exactly what photo I was going to use. My son and his girlfriend Abby have been together for almost 2 years. It is a really good thing she loves hockey almost as much as we do. The Mengerie papers by Celeste had a pattern very similar to Abby’s coat and it was perfect. I used my eraser tool and simple circle brush to create the circles using Agnes’ Paint accents. The solid bases that Christy choose matched perfectly with the collections and my photo (that was edited in Lightroom using the aged photo affect)

Audrey Neal:

As soon as I saw the colors in these papers, I knew I wanted to take advantage of that pink/yellow/orange color combination in this photo of my niece. Because so many of the elements in these chosen kits were flat, paper-type elements, I used more patterns than I normally do, to take the place of more dimensional accents. With everything, I tried to keep the idea of visual triangles in mind. I created three: one with the black patterned paper, one with the yellow label elements, and a third with the paint swatches (which I recolored by clipping Karen’s solid papers to them).

Christy Carlson:

The random array of tags, labels and the bright colors of Sara’s Recollect elements were a really great starting point for the kits this week. I chose to use them as a base for my photos as well as accents around my page. Celeste’s patterned papers were great because they offered all of the same colors as the tags but with a twist of unexpected pattern. Karen’s solids helped to ground the busy patterns and again tie in the colors. Finally I wanted to add just a little something extra with a little grunge and Agne’s paint accents were great for this. I left them in black to contrast the other bright colors. I love combining different kits and it was such a fun challenge to find 4 kits that you could all mix and match for this week!

Don’t forget that today only (ends Monday at midnight PST), you can get each of these kits for only a dollar, and one is even FREE! So go grab them, and then play along. Upload a layout using these four kits to the DHD gallery by Sunday, then come back here and post a link to it. Not only will you learn to stretch your kits, but you could win a gift certificate to DHD!

(Congratulations to Lory78, who wins a gift certificate for playing along with last week’s challenge! Be sure to leave her some love in the gallery!)
