Aren’t Mondays so much better when you have something to look forward to? Well, how about another week of the 4Play feature here at DHD!? Each week we choose 4 kits from 4 Designers in the Design House Digital Shop to mix & match and then we share 4 different layouts by the Design House Decorators using those kits. The challenge is to ONLY use items from the 4 kits that are chosen.
This week I’ve chosen the following kits:

Sara Schmutz’s Recollect Elements
Celeste Knight’s Menagerie Patterned Papers
Karen Funk’s Mayberry Solids
Agnes Brio’s Paint Accent 4 Brushes
Now for the fun part! Let’s see how the Decorators combined these kits!
Jennifer Valencia:

I LOVED the colors in these kits and found them to be a perfect match for some pictures of my daughter making paint. Agnes’ paint brush was the right accent for the page about painting, and I used yellow papers from Karen’s and Celeste’s kits to add color and shape to some boxes. Sara’s tags were perfect for a date title, and I though they also picked up the round shape & bright color of the lemon halves in the photos themselves. I also get excited when I can match the color and shape of my embellies to things actually IN my photos!
Mary Rogers:

When I started looking at the elements from Sara’s kit I saw the So Lucky ticket and knew exactly what photo I was going to use. My son and his girlfriend Abby have been together for almost 2 years. It is a really good thing she loves hockey almost as much as we do. The Mengerie papers by Celeste had a pattern very similar to Abby’s coat and it was perfect. I used my eraser tool and simple circle brush to create the circles using Agnes’ Paint accents. The solid bases that Christy choose matched perfectly with the collections and my photo (that was edited in Lightroom using the aged photo affect)
Audrey Neal:

As soon as I saw the colors in these papers, I knew I wanted to take advantage of that pink/yellow/orange color combination in this photo of my niece. Because so many of the elements in these chosen kits were flat, paper-type elements, I used more patterns than I normally do, to take the place of more dimensional accents. With everything, I tried to keep the idea of visual triangles in mind. I created three: one with the black patterned paper, one with the yellow label elements, and a third with the paint swatches (which I recolored by clipping Karen’s solid papers to them).
Christy Carlson:

The random array of tags, labels and the bright colors of Sara’s Recollect elements were a really great starting point for the kits this week. I chose to use them as a base for my photos as well as accents around my page. Celeste’s patterned papers were great because they offered all of the same colors as the tags but with a twist of unexpected pattern. Karen’s solids helped to ground the busy patterns and again tie in the colors. Finally I wanted to add just a little something extra with a little grunge and Agne’s paint accents were great for this. I left them in black to contrast the other bright colors. I love combining different kits and it was such a fun challenge to find 4 kits that you could all mix and match for this week!
Don’t forget that today only (ends Monday at midnight PST), you can get each of these kits for only a dollar, and one is even FREE! So go grab them, and then play along. Upload a layout using these four kits to the DHD gallery by Sunday, then come back here and post a link to it. Not only will you learn to stretch your kits, but you could win a gift certificate to DHD!
(Congratulations to Lory78, who wins a gift certificate for playing along with last week’s challenge! Be sure to leave her some love in the gallery!)
